Unimicron invited 18 suppliers for coastal afforestation to protect the sustainability of natural resources

Unimicron believes that the environment is the foundation of all things and should be protected by a long-term process. For this reason, we have been planting trees in each factory since its establishment to purify the air and beautify the environment. In recent years, the impact of climate change has intensified, and as a part of the global supply chain, we are aware that it is not enough to stick to improving the internal environment of our factories. Therefore, we are gradually expanding the concept of conservation outside of factories and seeking solutions to urgent environmental issues through communication and cooperation with external Non-governmental organizations, government agencies, and suppliers.

Taiwan is surrounded by the sea and has a total of 1,500 km of coastline, which is affected by strong winds, salt spray, poor soil, drought, and flooding. Forests in coastal areas have the functions of wind protection, sand fixation, salt spray reduction, tidal wave protection, and coastline land maintenance, as well as carbon sequestration, biodiversity enhancement, and local ecological enrichment.

In the field of tree planting, Tse-Xin Organic Agriculture Foundation (hereinafter referred to as Tse-Xin) has been cultivating for a long time and has a dedicated team of tree care and planting experts throughout Taiwan, and has won many international awards over the years.

To solve the pressing environmental issues and alleviate the retreat of the coastline, Unimicron adopted a piece of land along the Miaoli coastline and 1,000 saplings, and invited 18 suppliers to plant the seedlings of a windbreak forest on March 26. More than 50 volunteers, led by Unimicrom Executive General Manager, Mr. ChiaPin Lee, led volunteers, suppliers and their family to plant saplings and protect the front line of the coast together.

The planting method was carefully planned and taught by Tse-Xin. The trees were planted in "Water-Storing Tree Planter" to provide continuous water supply to the saplings, increasing their survival rate to over 90% that is the best solution for coastal afforestation.

This activity not only conveyed our determination but also planted the seeds of environmental protection in the hearts of volunteers, just like the saplings planted by ourselves, slowly sprouted, branched, and bore fruit for action further.

In the future, Unimicron will continue to explore urgent environmental issues through the three main axes of "Planet, People, and Performance" and the seven commitments to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 13, 14, 15, and 17, and to give back to the community and create shared values.

Remark:
Goal 13:Climate change is a real and undeniable threat to our entire civilization.
Goal 14:Healthy oceans and seas are essential to our existence
Goal 15:Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss
SDG 17:Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development
